At five months old, your baby can likely reach for things quite purposefully. In addition to its many colors, the Montessori rainbow drum offers a sound that your baby hears when they spin the colorful drum. This allows them to practice their hand-eye coordination and strengthen their wrists, arm, and neck muscles by lifting their head while in a prone position. A great motor skills exercise for practicing the transition from lying on the stomach, through propping up on the forearms, to the crawling position. The perfect tummy time toy! How you can introduce the spinning drum as a Montessori toy:


Initially, provide your baby with some support in spinning the colorful rainbow drum and show them how the toy works.


Spin the spinning drum in front of your baby when they are in the prone position to encourage them to lift their head and shift their weight onto their arms. This is how you train gross motor skills and strengthen the back muscles!


Later, you can also use the baby rainbow drum to practice sitting up independently.
